Album Review: Alvin Stardust - Alvin (Conehead Records)

This was going to be the album that probably would have relaunched Alvin Stardust's career before his sad departure last month.

Rather than taking the easy option and recording an album of covers he had recorded an album of new tracks. His voice sounded more mature and there are a lot of influences on the album from Johnny Cash to Pulp!

The album opens up with Robbery, a brooding track that could be an Arctic Monkeys track; he had obviously been listening to modern artists before his death. The Johnny Cash influence is heard best on Tongue Tied.

The last track on the album, Lovin You Till I Die is a sad note to end his career on and is now quite poignant given the sad news last month.

4 out of 5.
