Album Review: Charli XCX - Sucker (Atlantic Records)

At only 22 years old, Charli XCX has already written the hit single last year for Icona Pop with the track I Love It and the 5 million selling single Fancy (Iggy Azalea). This British singer certainly looks like a long term prospect.

Her debut album is quite impressive; the album starts off with the title track, Sucker. If you remember Transvision Vamp this track will remind you of them. Charli has a lot of attitude and that comes across on most of the tracks on the album.

The single, Break the Rules has a punk edge to it,. If Katie Perry was English she would probably sound like this. The track owes a little to the Body Rockers track; I Like the Way You Move.

Elsewhere on London Queen the lyric is about her success in America, living in Hollywood and driving on the wrong side of the road. Hanging Around could be the cousin to Joan Jett's I Love Rock n Roll or Def Leppards Pour Some Sugar on Me, both big tracks in America that probably explains why she is so successful over the other side of the Atlantic.

Caught in the Middle sounds like a future single; she has a knack of writing memorable tracks like this one demonstrates. Expect to hear any of these tracks on the radio over the coming year.
