Album Review: Gorgon City - Sirens (Virgin Records)

Gorgon City had a big hit earlier this year with the single Ready for Your Love; they played Bingley Music Live in August and closed the Vevo Halloween event in Manchester the other weekend.

Their debut album is out now and it an unexpected surprise: it sounds as good at home as it does on the dance floor. Gorgon City is Kye Gibbon and Matt Robson-Scott although on the album they are joined by guest vocalists such as Maverick Sabre and Katy B.

The album owes a lot to the house music scene of the 1990's which can be heard on tracks such as Go All Night where Jennifer Hudson provides a strong vocal over a house inspired track, 6am has touches of Faithless, the track is an atmospheric song that sounds even better when the sun has gone down. Elevate is one of the best tracks on the album and brings back to mind those great nights at Bed and Gatecrasher in Sheffield.

Maverick Sabre closes the album on a ballad with Hard on Me. It is a mixed album with something for everyone.
