Interview: Leeds Oktoberfest, The Tetley, 6-9th October

The Munich Oktoberfest is one of Germany's biggest events and draws visitors from all parts of Europe. This year you do not have to travel that far to witness the atmosphere of this celebrated event as Leeds will be hosting its own Oktoberfest.

Held in a big top that can hold up to 2,000 visitors will be able to experience the in house band, traditional food stalls and of course the various bars, I spoke to the organiser about what they have planned for the event:

How did the idea come about of having an Oktoberfest in Leeds?

We have been looking at the idea for 3 years now, in a way it is like a pop up festival. We wanted to do it on a big scale and on a big site.

We have used the Tetley site previously and knew how well it worked. It is a good site and is in the centre of Leeds with a car park nearby.

What can we expect?

Everyone will get an experience as if they were in Munich. The event will be held in a German big top that can hold up to 2,000 people. The decor and the production will all be bespoke. There will be a 25 metre bar and food operators too, we have a big stage for the oompah band. We will also be having a VIP section that includes reserved seating that is close to the stage, waiter and waitress service and a free stein of beer or two glasses of wine.

Will the food and drink be reasonably priced?

The food options will start from £2.50 upwards and we have partnered with Erdinger, one of Germany's most popular beers to bring it to Leeds, there will also be haus beer too.

Have you ever been to the Oktoberfest in Munich?

We went over last year to see if we could do it and bring such an event to Leeds which we think will work and the people of Leeds and Yorkshire will enjoy.

If it is a success are there plans for another one next year?

Of course, we want to develop it and bring it back again. There have been other smaller versions in the past but we wanted to do it on a larger scale.

Tickets are available from £8.00

VIP tickets are available from £30.00
