Interview: Lucy Kay
Lucy Kay
Lucy Kay has once again shown that classical talent is celebrated by the British public. Having romped to victory on this year's Britain's Got Talent, the Leicester born songstress has successfully entered the Top 40 with her début collection. We caught up with Lucy to find out
what inspired her journey to solo stardom.
When did you first realise you wanted to make music?
When I was 7 years old
If you could go back to that day, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
To never dwell on peoples opinions of yourself
What is your recording process?
I imagine I am singing in a concert format and view it as a performance rather than it is going on an album. So I sing it with all the passion that I can.
Where do you look for inspiration?
All of the other classical musicians that have made big names for themselves by making their music accessible to the public.
If your music were a person, what would their personality be? Where do you think it would live?
Emotional and Dramatic, She would live in a castle and she would be alone singing about love and anger and pain- hanging out the window like Rapunzel.
If you had to cite your biggest three influences, what would they be?
Katharine Jenkins as a person she has put classical music on the map.
Pamela Cook who was my former singing teacher who passed away unfortunately last year and she instilled the passion and joy that music can bring to people as well as myself.
Lastly my mum who was always strong and taught me that I could put my mind to anything.
What are your three favourite records of the moment?
Frozen Soundtrack (hehe!), Royal Blood, London Grammar
What song do you wish you had written?
Queen's "Who Wants to Live Forever"
If you could collaborate with any living artist, who would it be?
Andre Bocelli
Touring is a big part of a musicians life, what are your tour must haves?
Coconut Water to hydrate, Chocolate, My Pyjamas and Tea, Vichy Make Up
What makes a good live show?
The ability to grab the audience in the palm of your hands and hold them there, to be very personable of stage
What has been your favourite performance to date?
Songs of Praise-The Big Sing with Katherine Jenkins at the Royal Albert Hall
