Once a year for a week in August the whole of Kettlewell, which is a lovely little village in the Yorkshire Dales, is taken over by scarecrows. These can be seen everywhere including rooftops, gardens and hidden away places.

The idea of the Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival started in 1994 when the local school organised a fund raising event and it proved so popular that it has carried on ever since.

There are 200 houses in Kettlewell and most of the residents take part, either making and renovating scarecrows each year, organising parking or helping with the home made produce to serve to visitors.

This year more than 3,000 people attended the opening weekend which was blessed with good weather.

Proceeds from the Festival go to the local church, village hall, school and projects which benefit the whole community.

There is a suggested theme and for 2015 this is West End musicals and Roald Dahl. The Old Woman and her Shoe is this year's winning entry.

A great day out for the whole family.

The festival continues until Sunday 16 August so get along if you can, you will not be disappointed!
