Album Review: Izzi Dunn - Recycle Love

Izzi Dunn grew up in Sheffield; after a five year hiatus she releases her new album.

A mix of soul, jazz and pop she already has influential fans like Jamie Cullum and Trevor Nelson.

Throughout this period she has been in demand as a cellist for Damon Albarn and Mark Ronson amongst others.

The album opens up the funk inspired track, Our Time which is a song you could imagine Beverley Knight singing, but it is on Look Up To The Sky where you start to think why haven't you discovered Izzi before.

A Jazz/pop song with lush instrumentation that brings to mind 4 Hero, which is no surprise as the recording was co-produced by Izzi with Drego who had composed tracks with 4 Hero.

Think Masters At Work here and you will be in the right direction. One of the stand out tracks on the album, with a lyric all about looking up to the sun when things start to get tough.

Pyro is an observational song about the world around us that is musically inspired by Erykah Badu.

Lady has the funk of a latter day Prince track, whilst the quality soul continues on Recycle Love. Vocally she reminds me of Lisa Stansfield but what lifts the song up is the simple instrumentation.

Love Interrupted keeps the quality high on this intriguing album.

Pure class.
