Album Review: Magnum - Escape From The Shadow Garden (SPV)

Magnum
Magnum
Releasing their 19th studio album, Magnum, the UK melodic rock outfit have returned with a blistering album.

From the opening guitar riff on the first track on the album Live 'Til You Die it sounds like classic Magnum. Whilst other bands from their era are going through the motions performing their old hits on tour, Magnum are still creating new music that is not a shadow of their former glories.

Guitarist and songwriter Tony Clarkin obviously has not got writers block yet. The quality continues with Falling For the Big Plan with its chorus that has you hooked. They make it sound so easy.

Burning River is another of the album's highlights as the power and melody always associated with Magnum continues. It brings has the pomp and circumstance of Wild Swan, one of their early classic tracks.

It is just not rock too as they still can do the ballads like Don't Fall Asleep and The Valley of Tears.

The album will appeal to existing Magnum fans and anyone else who has a good ear for classic rock.

The band appear at Holmfirth Picturedome on Friday 2 May 2014
