Album Review: Years And Years - Communion

The trio Years and Years have had one of the biggest hits of the year with King and now comes their debut album. The lead singer Olly Alexander reminds me vocally of Will Young at times and the trio's brand of music has elements of the Pet Shop Boys albeit without the lyrical wordplay.

The first two tracks on the album are quite moody, Foundation and Real give way to their latest single Shine which still sees them in a reflective mood; it is a grower and so is this album, you have to listen to it a few times before you get into it.

Their best track, it has to be said is their big hit single King, although former single Desire also featured on the album hits the bullseye. The album though does have some other highlights as Border sounds like a future single and takes the mood up a bit.

The track Without sounds like a Will Young song but it does have a melody that weaves its way into your head, you could see this being a Christmas single.

If you have enjoyed the singles, chances are you will like this album.
