Alhambra Crowned 'Most Welcoming Theatre' In Yorkshire & The Humber

The winners of the regional and national UK Most Welcoming Theatre Awards 2018 have been announced – and the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford has once again scooped the title for Yorkshire and The Humber.

The Alhambra Theatre will now progress to the finals of the nationwide theatre awards - and the overall winner will be announced at a ceremony in London later this month.

Adam Renton, General Manager Bradford Theatres, said: “We are delighted the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford has scooped this award for the second year running. To be voted Most Welcoming Theatre for Yorkshire and the Humber once is an honour but twice is remarkable, and a wonderful acknowledgement of the tremendous work of our staff.”

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places added:
“We are fortunate to enjoy an incredible level of community support and are grateful to our loyal audience members who voted for the Alhambra Theatre. Thank you to you all and fingers crossed when the overall national winner is announced on Sunday 14 October.”

A record 56,000 votes were cast by the public in 12 different geographical areas of the UK for the Most Welcoming Theatre Award, which is run in Association with Theatre Tokens.

Representatives from all the winning regional venues are now invited to the UK Theatre Awards on Sunday 14 October at London’s Guildhall, where the nationwide winner will be announced. The Mill at Sonning in the South-East of England has won this title for the last two years.

Cassie Chadderton, Head of UK Theatre, said: “It is fantastic to see a record-breaking number of people all over the country casting votes in support of their local theatres this year. This award is a chance to recognise the importance of theatres as valuable cultural hubs, and the loyalty they can inspire by creating a fantastic audience experience – from friendly front-of-house service to engaging outreach projects and imaginative, entertaining programming.”
