All Is Not Lost - Treatments For Hair Loss

Hair loss is an incredibly sensitive issue for millions across the region and, despite the growing number of sufferers, is still a condition surrounded by stigma.
And it's not all down to ageing. Stress is one of the biggest factors as to why now an increasing number of adults experience thinning and balding of the hair. Alongside other reasons such as the result of a poor diet, side effects to treatment, trauma, hormones and genetics.
Kiyara A-Roonchai, a certified hair loss specialists and trichology practitioner from West Yorkshire, set up a hair salon, Trikos Youthful Hair, in Cleckheaton at the start of this year which combines general hairdressing and specialist hair loss treatment. With over 13 years experience in the industry and clients from across Yorkshire, Kiyara knows that it is not just about what it looks like on the outside that effects sufferers but that there are massive repercussions on the inside too. She said: "Confidence is usually the first thing to take a hit when someone realises that they have started to lose their hair, or that they will lose it due to medical treatment. This can then lead to worrying further and because stress is a major contributing factor to hair loss; it can often become a vicious cycle."
Once Kiyara has diagnosed the severity of the problem, she offers three types of treatment from custom-made hair grafts, laser hair growth to injections carried out with a nurse. She also works alongside psychologists, helping to get to the root of the client's problem.
Kiyara said: "As part of treating hair loss accurately, I have to understand my client's lifestyle and, often, their personal life. That's the reason I decided to set up my own salon - because I know what these people are going through and I'm passionate about helping them. With my background in hairdressing, I wanted to offer something that catered for their image as well as the deeper problems involved.
"I purposely chose a busy street in Cleckheaton because it's near to the major motorways and because I didn't want to open a hidden-away clinic. Although I use private rooms for hair loss clients, I wanted them to feel as though they were coming to the hairdressers like any other person and that they shouldn't feel embarrassed about their situation."
Trikos' hair grafts are also in demand with women looking for thicker, fuller hair or an alternative to hair extensions. Each graft is custom built to match the client's hair exactly and although they take up to 12 weeks to be made, Kiyara ensures they are of the highest quality and each one has the client's name inscribed so that they know it's specific to them. Kiyara then fits it to the client's head with a thorough explanation of how to maintain it.
Kiyara explains that there are only a small number of certified specialists in Yorkshire so she has a client base reaching across the county and with over 6.5 million men across the UK suffering from pattern baldness, she has a large number of male clients coming for treatment. She said: "Making sure the client feels comfortable is always a priority as I know it takes a lot of courage for people to admit that they are loosing their hair and that they want treatment for it. Over half of my hair loss clients are male looking for solutions to pattern baldness and they are usually embarrassed about it. But once they have had a free consultation, they often feel more at ease as they understand that they're not alone and that there are options available to them.
"I've had lots of feedback from clients explaining how happy they are with the results and how much easier the process was than initially thought. That's the best part of my job - when clients leave at the end of a course of treatment feeling much better about themselves, not just how they look on the outside but how they feel on the inside as well."
