Many a great vocalist has been launched through a prominent rap collaboration.
Eminem brought us Dido, Chipmunk brought us Emeli Sande and Akon has already given us Lady Gaga. But Akon isn't gone just yet, for he has brought the sensational Aprilann on his latest UK tour.
With a single, Crown and the Girls, that has echoes of early Tori Amos meeting Ingrid Michaelson and Taylor Swift for coffee, Aprilann is a talent to keep your eye closely on.
Of the single she states, "I wrote this song the day I realised that I had to be done communicating with this person. It took a lot of denial on my part before I could finally accept it was done.
"I had the realisation right after I got a text from this person cancelling some plans we had. I wrote the whole song on a bench outside of a department store in the time it took my brother to find new sneakers and check out.
"I decided right then that Instead of letting my anger out on him like every other time before, I'm going to write the best song I've ever written."
We caught up with Aprilann to find out what song makes her...
