Cock And Crown Inn, Wakefield

You might have visited this cosy, popular pub previously when it was part of the Crown Carveries chain. The pub/restaurant has recently had a huge makeover and refit and is now part of the new Stonehouse Pizza and Carvery Chain.

The colour scheme used both inside and out tends to be turquoise and grey. All the seats and tables inside are new along with the carpets.

Pizzas are made to order and seem to be a big hit with families. Varieties range from the usual Margherita to new delights such as Reggae Reggae Chicken and even an All Day Breakfast pizza!

My starter of Mac 'n' Cheese Balls served with Smokey Baconnaise Dip was a meal in itself, whilst my sister's Crispy Potato Skins were so plentiful I had to help her out with the starter.

I was recommended to try the Chicken Breast Burger and I was glad I tried it; two succulent pieces of chicken breast served in a soft brioche bun. I was able to help myself to fresh salad at the salad station and also chips and vegetables from the Carvery.

My sister's Vegetarian 12" pizza was full of toppings and freshly prepared. We thought it was better to try items off the menu rather than the Carvery, although everything looked well presented. The other diners also seemed to be sampling items off the Pizza Oven menu or the Burger Shack Menu.

Desserts of American Style Deep Fill Apple Pie and my Rocky Road Sundae were plentiful and served well and actually tasted good.

If you want a real friendly Yorkshire welcome and reasonably priced tasty food, freshly cooked then you have found the right place here.
