Compilation - Dave Pearce - Dance Anthems (New State Music)

Spread over 3 CD's this exciting new compilation brings together some of the best dance tracks when dance tracks actually got into the singles chart. With a lot of these types of compilations it is the same songs that keep re-appearing, but thankfully in this one there are quite a few that have not featured before.

Listening to Dave Pearce's Sunday lunchtime show on Radio 1 was always essential listening along with his Dance Anthems show, though these days he is on Radio 2 playing the classic dance songs on his Dance Years programme.

CD1 is more mainstream - think songs like Lady (Hear Me Tonight) by Modjo, Put Em High by Stonebridge (you might remember this from The Hed Kandi days and night's they had at Gatecrasher in Sheffield) and My My My by Armand Van Helden.

CD2 has Rhythm of the Night from Corona which Bastille have covered a few years back. Everyone remembers D:Ream for Things Can Only Get Better but instead here we have U R The Best Thing. Did you know that Professor Brian Cox was a member of D:ream?. The sublime Sing it Back by Moloko has aged well and sounds superb here.

CD3 goes more underground and electro with tracks such as Loneliness by Tomcraft, Not Over Yet by Grace and Fire Wire by Cosmic Gate.

If your old 12 inch singles have become warped or your mix tapes don't play anymore this fine compilation will be a good replacement - or if you just want to remember the times when dance music was going through a golden period.

I give the compilation 4 out of 5
