Festive Lithuania Prepares To Welcome Christmas Shoppers
Christmas shoppers in Yorkshire can do something completely different this year with a Ryanair flight out of Leeds Bradford Airport to one of the best Christmas market destinations in Europe – Lithuania.
Visitors are spoilt for choice when it comes to festive markets in the country’s capital Vilnius, said to be home to some of the most lavish around.
A huge Christmas tree covered with thousands of sparkling lights – there were 70,000 last year - can be found in Cathedral Square, surrounded by different market stalls offering traditional festive treats, handcrafted souvenirs and plenty of stocking stuffers. Other markets across the city include City Hall Square and in the Bernardinai Gardens.
The market at Cathedral Square is open daily from 1st December 2018 – 7th January 2019 and is a favourite amongst tourists and locals alike. It is the biggest market in Vilnius and its tree will be lit on the evening of December 1st when festivities formally begin.
Another market can be found in Town Hall Square, which is lined with picturesque chalet-inspired stalls offering more souvenirs and tasty treats. This market is open daily from 1st December – 7th January 2019.
The International Christmas Charity Bazaar, held on the 1st December 2018 at Vilnius Town Hall, is another unmissable event for those who love Christmas. More than 30 international communities come together to sell speciality goods and visitors can also enter a lottery which includes some fantastic prizes.
For those wishing to take home a souvenir made by a Lithuania Designer, the Christmas Design Square, open from 18-23rd December 2018, is full of thoughtful, traditional and creative Christmas gifts. The market can be found at Vinco Kudirkos Square.
Town Hall Square forms the heart of the city’s festivities with a market offering sweet treats, presents and the chance to meet Santa Claus.
Direct, low-cost flights from the UK to Vilnius and Kaunas are available with Wizz Air and Ryanair with prices in December starting from £39.00 return. Hotel rooms in both cities start from £22.00 per night. For further information on Lithuania, please visit www.lithuania.travel/en-gb
