Huddersfield Windsurfer Joins The UK Youth Squad
Jennie Roberts
Huddersfield windsurfer Jennie Roberts has recently been invited to join the Royal Yachting Assn. Youth Squad. This follows her success in previous years as a member of the RYA Junior Squad sailing a Techno 293 board.

During 2017 Jennie competed in the European championships in Brittany and later represented GB at The World Championships in Salou, Spain, where she finished 21st. The junior category is for under 17 year olds.

Jennie now races in the Youth category which is for under 19 year olds. The Youth Squad sail the larger Neil Pryde RS:X board with an 8.5 metre sail.

Jennie, a 2nd year BTEC sport and exercise science student at Huddersfield New College has been training hard over the past 12 months, transitioning and developing new techniques to get the very best out of this larger, faster, more powerful Olympic class windsurfing board.

Training alongside some of the elite athletes who will ultimately be chosen to represent GB in future international competitions and possibly the Olympics is a great privilege and a real challenge.

Most of the Youth Squad training takes place in Weymouth, which makes for long car journeys and busy weekends. Squad training is mostly during the winter months. When not on the water training, it is strength training in the gym focusing on core strength and agility, this helps with the short response times required to maximise wind changes and sea state.

If you see me out on the water give me a wave. My sail number is GBR667 or check out my website JenGBR667
