Inglorious Interview Ahead Of York Fibbers Gig
Graham Clark, Features Writer
Formed in 2014 British rock band Inglorious released their second album, Inglorious 2 in May. The quartet are influenced by classic rock bands such as Deep Purple, Whitesnake and Bad Company. As part of a UK tour the band visit York on 11 October to play a gig in the city at Fibbers.

I spoke to lead singer Nathan James ahead of the gig.

YOU HAVE JUST RELEASED THE SECOND ALBUM?

That's right, we recorded the album in Liverpool live. The album has got a British sound about it, it is proper music and anyone who likes classic rock will enjoy the album I'm sure. It was produced by the band and mixed by Kevin Shirley who has worked with Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE WORKING WITH ULI JON ROTH?

It was great, he wanted to re visit the old Scorpions songs and needed a singer. They are pretty high songs to sing are some of the Scorpions tracks but it was an awesome experience and a great one too.

THE TOUR VISITS YORK, HAVE YOU BEEN THERE BEFORE?

Absolutely, I really like York. I was in the Michael Jackson tribute show - Thriller for a while and the show visited the Grand Opera House in York for a week.

There is a rock singer in the show and I did the more rockier songs like Dirty Diana.

I fell in love with the city. I went to Betty's for a brew and hope to go back there again. It is always so busy and always a queue to get in! Fibbers is such an iconic venue and we are looking forward to playing the gig there.

I have always wanted to be in a band and we are all committed to this band. I'm used to playing to large crowds too. When I was in the Trans-Siberian Orchestra we were playing to audiences of 20,000-30,000 a night but it will be a smaller gig at Fibbers.

With Inglorious we supported Steel Panther in Europe. They are great guys and we had a fun time, they have some great stories to tell which I couldn't repeat to you!

IT SEEMS HARD FOR BRITISH ROCK BANDS TO BREAK THROUGH THESE DAYS?

It is hard but there are a lot of good British bands out there. I suppose the last big band from the UK to break through was The Darkness, they are still going strong and selling out venues. The Fibbers gig should be a good one and we are all looking forward to it.

We have given up jobs and put everything into the band. We want to make it happen. If you are going to do something I believe you should do it properly.

We have something coming up in the New Year which will be a tour supporting a big band but I cannot say who at the moment. It will be a big surprise for the fans.

WHO ARE YOUR INFLUENCES?

David Coverdale from Whitesnake is a big influence. He is from Yorkshire isn't he? (He was born in Saltburn by the Sea). I have seen the band many times. For me he is the ultimate rock star. We went backstage in Nottingham on the last UK tour they did which was co headlined with Def Leppard. I met Bernie Marsden (ex Whitesnake guitarist) who was there too and since then we have become good friends.
