Interview: Nikki Loy

Nikki Loy is a young singer/songwriter from Oxfordshire who has been fortunate enough to land the support slot on the Shane Filan tour that visits Bradford on Monday 17 October.

How did you get the support slot on the Shane Filan Tour?

Solo who are the booking agents for the tour approached Resound Media who are helping managing my career and asked them if there was anyone they had who was suitable to support Shane on his tour and they suggested me. It is a great opportunity for me and I am very excited about it. It's not the biggest audiences I have played to though as I have some festivals around Oxfordshire in the past. It will get my music across to a new audience.

Are you nervous playing in front of mainly a female audience?

Being a girl myself I think that the audience will appreciate the lyrics to my songs, I hope that they enjoy my set. It will be about 30 minutes or so, I might change the running order around a little bit, I will see how it goes after the first few shows.

You are coming to Bradford to play the Alhambra Theatre on the tour, have you ever been to the city before?

No, I've never been to Bradford, so it will be a whole new experience for me. I love old architecture and from what you have told me about the Alhambra in Bradford it sounds a lovely theatre with a lot of atmosphere and history. I am going to Google it too so I can find out more about the theatre. I will be doing some meet and greets at the interval and signing my new CD. It sounds a great venue.

The new album is out you say the same week as the Bradford gig

Yes, that's right, the album is called Pivotal, named after a track on the album. It is about a moment in time when you have to make an important decision about your life: it could go either way. The album has 10 tracks on it and I shall be performing the ones I think will go down well on the Shane Filan tour.

Are you travelling between gigs in the camper van you built?

I live in the camper van, it's great because I wake up each morning to a different view. I built it with my dad and I will be travelling between the gigs in it on the tour. I'm really looking forward to the tour and very excited, as I said, it is a massive opportunity for me.

Nikki Loy supports Shane Filan at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford on Monday 17 October.
