Interview: O.Torvald

Over a decade into a career that has seen them perform alongside Linkin Park, Evanescence and Garbage, Ukrainian rockers O. Torvald have made the decision to leave the rock arena behind temporarily for a high profile slot on one of the world's biggest pop stages. The gamble paid off for former winners Lordi, so we caught up with O. Torvald to see how they are feeling about their Eurovision prospects.

For those not in the know, tell us a little about yourself...

We are the rock-band from Ukraine with more than 10 years history and best fans in the whole world.

What appealed to you about entering Eurovision?

It was the first ever contest we took part in. We just decided to try and see what will happen.

How did you feel when you found out you would be representing Ukraine?

It was like a bolt from the blue in terms of that we were 100% sure that we're NOT gonna win in any case. Now it's big honour for us to represent our country on Eurovision.

Your song is called Time, tell us about it...

This song is about the value of time. You can't afford wasting your time because it's the most precious gift. Live your life in full and dedicate your time to what really matters.

What is the best feedback you have received as yet?

More than 12,000 fans that came to our free concert after Eurovision national finals.

Have you listened to your competitors yet? If so, which is your current favourite?

I'm ashamed, but I still can't find time to listen carefully to other competitors music.

Have you spoken to any past entrants? If so, what advice have they had?

Andrey Danilko (Verka Serdyuchka) is very supportive. He always says to me: "Don't listen to nobody. You are great. Everything will be amazing!"

What is your favourite Eurovision entry of all time?

Jamala - 1944

What do you hope to achieve with your appearance at Eurovision?

I don't really know. We just want to see what will happen. It's a real adventure for us.

What is success for you in the contest?

To spread the word about Ukraine and to be decent representatives of Rock music.

Lastly, if you could duet with one past entrant, who would it be?

Conchita Wurst, of course!!!
