Interview: The Luka State

The Luka State
The Luka State
Back in 2013 The Luka State exploded on to the music scene with the Rock'n'Roll drive of their debut single Matter of Time. Since then the Cheshire quartet have changed line-up a few times and released consistently strong singles. As they head back to Yorkshire next week for a show in Sheffield to celebrate the release of their awesome Lies! Lies! Lies!, we caught up with lead singer Conrad Ellis to find out what song makes him...

Smile

In between days by The Cure. I have a great memory of coming home from school skipping the afternoon to find my mum home from work early and doing the ironing. I was caught red handed but she let it slip. She made dinner for the both of us and she showed me In between days by The Cure along with the video. Every time I hear it, it takes me right back.

Contemplate

God by John Lennon.. it's a truly beautiful song and it makes me question a lot of things in life. The message is simple.. believe in nothing but yourself and I think that's an amazing mantra to have.

Cry

Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley. It's beauty stops time and reminds me of someone special.

Want to work out

At the moment I'm working out a lot to the Skepta album. There isn't a particular song. It makes me want to work out harder and harder and just run that extra few yards that you don't usually have in you. I thrive off the aggression and cockiness of his music.

Reminisce

Two of us by The Beatles... It reminds me of myself and the bassist Sam Bell growing up together and starting this band and the journey we have travelled and the journey that we are still very much on to this date striving to reach our dream.

Relax

Satisfy my soul by Bob Marley. It reminds me of being in the Spanish mountains with my uncle when I was younger with not a care in the world. Those were the days man, no bills, no work, no stress ha. Soon as I close my eyes with this record on I'm completely relaxed.

Feel Determined

The Who - Baba O Reily. It kicks me into gear. It's such a powerful tune ! It reminds me of starting this band with Sam as a teenager and wanting to really take this somewhere. It makes me feel that teenage hunger that I felt at 14 and that hunger I've always had. This song just reminds me that I still have a lot of fire in my belly.

Dance

David Bowie - Lets Dance - Cmon it's just infectious, you can't help but move to it. I'm not a dancer and can't move at all but after a pint or two I'm the first up. Before you know it, it's got a hold of everyone. Rest his soul.
