Kuckoo, Sheffield

The Kuckoo chain previously only had 2 cocktail bars, one in Chester and the other in Preston, but now they have crossed over the Pennines and arrived in Sheffield.

What sets them apart from other places serving cocktails is that Kuckoo only concentrate on cocktails.

There is a twist too as they call themselves Rock n Roll Cocktail bars, so the soundtrack changes throughout the day to reflect the crowd.

Posters on the wall range from concert photos to advertising iconic bands such as AC/DC, Guns n Roses etc.

The decor seems to be red with plenty of booths where your drinks will be served to you.

We visited early on a Saturday evening to sample one of their DIY Cocktail Masterclasses.

The price of these range from £20 to £35, but they are really good fun. Our two trainers, so to speak were Jim and Andi. Both had worked at either the Chester or Preston cocktail bars. We were put at ease with their friendly banter, as it can be quite daunting to go behind a Cocktail bar if you have never experienced it before.

Apparently it can take up to 4 months to be trained and to learn all you need to know to be able to work behind one of Kuckoo's Cocktail bars.

You are asked what your preferences are and what you like in a drink so they can tailor to your liking the cocktail that you are making. With my love of fruit and a touch of rum, Mai Tai seemed to be the obvious choice for me.

I was guided through the process of making the cocktail. I've always wanted to make a cocktail and getting to drink the cocktail you have made seemed so special.

The whole session lasts just over an hour, but it was great fun. The masterclasses can be booked at various times during the week and at weekends.

If you are just looking to visit somewhere different in the city, then Kuckoo is a good choice, as it is unlike anywhere else in Sheffield.

With friendly and very knowledgable staff you will be well looked after. It is a unique place where you will be treated as an individual.
