Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
Let it Snow! Shambles to be covered in snow for Christmas shopping.

Members of the Shambles Area Traders Association (SATA) have organised a special treat for visitors to the historic shopping street.

Every Thursday night between 17:00 and 19:00, snow will fall, covering the iconic street and Christmas shoppers.

The traders of the street teamed together to plan and buy 10 snow machines to give York it’s first (and potentially only) Christmas snow.

“We wanted to do something a little special for Christmas this year and we wanted to do something to encourage independent businesses on the Shambles to stay open for late night shopping on a Thursday said Phil Pinder, chair of SATA.

He went on to say: “We borrowed one snow machine last Thursday and the response from the public was incredible. I’ve never seen the street so busy at that time.”

The snow machines were crowd funded on Spacehive and predominantly paid for by Shambles traders, members of the public and The York Bid.

The snow machines will run from 23rd November until 21st December.
