Live in Barnsley Is Five
Live in Barnsley, the town's first metropolitan free music festival that began in June 2013, is now into its milestone fifth year. This year's LIVE in Barnsley FREE Music Festival takes place on Saturday 17 June 2017. 18 town centre venues and over 150 bands are taking part in the main music festival with 2 additional venues, The Civic and Mandela Gardens, taking part in the Fringe Arts section of the festival.

As part of that this year the organisers have enlisted the help of Lewis Ryan, an Artist & Designer based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Lewis is playing the music festival with his band, The Rolling Down Hills, but is also contributing his art by create some festival specific and unique artwork that will be displayed at the festival and become part of the festival.

Lewis told us, "It was great to be asked to contribute to the festival in this way. After studying as a Fine Artist then spending a 15 year career in graphic design & marketing, my work has become much more graphic over time. I like to be diverse in both the media I use to create and the subject matter of each piece. I do not wish to become reliant on computers for this process.

"Hand drawing, painting, sculpting in traditional media is a must for me - It has to be part of the process in creating my work. The traditional sense of being a fine artist to me has recently gone out the window. Why should there be rules, surely art shouldn't have rules? I practice Fine Art, I work in Design - Am I an Artist or a Designer? The line between the two for me has blurred...I CREATE."

The Art of Lewis Ryan

Festival organiser, David Pearsall, told us, "I've been a big admirer of Lewis' work and music so it's great that he can combine both at this years festival. It's been amazing watching him create some of the artwork that will appear in and around the festival and I love the fact that people can now see him actually creating it live online."
