Pizza Express - New Summer Menu
Graham Clark, Features Writer
In a crowded pizza market it is always a good idea to launch new items to your menu to keep the customers satisfied. With this in mind Pizza Express have recently launched their new summer menu.
The Scarborough restaurant is as good a choice as any to visit a Pizza Express restaurant: it is situated on the main promenade and has large windows that give the restaurant a light and airy feel. The views looking out over the harbour and the seafront are an added bonus. There is an upstairs eating area too. Overall it had a good ambiance.
One of the main new items is the Quattro Carni pizza which is served on their Romana base. With a combination of Finocchiona, Coppa, Milano salami, pancetta, tomato and buffalo mozzarella finished with rocket and shaved Gran Milano cheese it is a pizza lover's delight if you like a hot and fiery pizza.
Priced at £14.75 it is not cheap, but you can tell that quality ingredients have been used. It deserves to be added to the menu full time and not just for summer as it tasted better than other pizzas I have eaten at Pizza Express. What I liked about it was that it was not too hot and spicy so that you could not taste all the flavours.
My partner decided upon the Pollo Milanese - another new addition to the menu.
Priced at £12.45 the tempting dish consists of warm breaded whole chicken breast with rocket, shaved Gran Milano cheese, roasted tomato and extra virgin olive oil, served with pesto, fresh basil and a wedge of lemon. Seemingly the chicken was cooked to perfection, moist and a copious serving.
The Raspberry Honeycomb Cream Slice is a new dessert added to the summer menu.
Raspberry ripple cheesecake on a crunchy biscuit base topped with sweet honeycomb and chocolate pieces it did not disappoint. Tangy, fruity and light it complemented the pizza eaten earlier.
My partner chose the Vanilla cheesecake - not a new addition to the menu, this staple dessert has been on the menu previously.
Whereas my Raspberry Honeycomb Cream Slice was served on a cold plate and the dessert was cold, the Vanilla Cheesecake seemed aired and the base of the cheesecake was not crisp. The topping however was fine.
Apart from that they seem to be onto a winner with the new summer items added to the menu.
