Review: Liv Warfield At The Nice Jazz Festival

Liv Warfield
Liv Warfield
Liv Warfield is a name you might not be familiar with but you soon will be. Her album The Unexpected has no other than Prince as the executive producer and Liv is the newest member of the New Power Generation. The NPG horn section even feature in the touring line up on her band.

On stage she comes across as a mix of Tina Turner meets the UK vocalist Yazz, best remembered for her big hit The Only Way Is Up. She has the energy and voice of the former with the looks of the latter. Although she was only the first act of the night she took to the stage like she owned it and made a lot of new friends in the process.

After starting her set with some uptempo tracks she took things on a more bluesy route with her track, Stay. Why Do You Lie? sounded brilliant under the hot night of the Mediterranean sky.

If she was to be featured on a UK TV show such as the Jools Holland BBC2 programme her career would really take off in this country and she would be the perfect act for his show.

Her short 50 minute set showcased all that was good about her. She can rock with the best of them as witnessed on her track Blackbird. Her 9 piece band and her gel together well and there is a chemistry between them all.

This was a joyful, energetic performance that had everyone clapping and enjoying her act.
