Review Of Leeds Festival, Bramham Park

Now a part of the Leeds calendar, the Leeds Festival is one of the major UK festivals of the year and rightly so. It attracts some of the biggest names in rock, dance and from the indie scene.

Jimmy Eat World always reminds me musically of Bowling For Soup without the humour. Dressed all in black they looked the part. They drew a sizeable crowd to their mid afternoon set though it was the tracks I Will Steal You Back and Sweetness that got the crowd really going.

With a new album out just two weeks ago that went Top 5 Twin Atlantic is a band with a lot of success to celebrate. Their set in the NME tent was one that drew one of the biggest crowds of the day. Heart and Soul closed a storming set and the October tour looks like one not to miss.

To re-iterate the point that many dance acts are faceless Duke Dumont takes to the DJ decks and announces "Hi, I'm Duke Dumont" to the party crowd in the Radio 1 Dance tent. His songs however are not unknown; Need You 100% and his new single I Won't Look Back had the crowd dancing away. It would have been better though if he could have featured some live vocals as opposed to just spinning his tracks.

King Charles
King Charles
King Charles is a huge pop star, well, in his head he is, it is just that the rest of us have not caught up with him yet. Bam Bam, his single from last year should have been a big hit and if he had been around in the 1980's he would have been on the front cover of Smash Hits. A great set and it is hoped his record company stick with him as he looks like he and his band could be around for some time yet.

Queens of the Stone Age
Queens of the Stone Age
Queens of the Stone Age are your typical American rock act and they come on stage with all guns firing. Wearing a padded jacket and scarf, lead singer Joshua Homme is dressed for the cool unseasonal Yorkshire night. No One Knows, one of their best songs comes as early in the set as the second song.

Metronomy
Metronomy
Metronomy have the look, dressed all in white, they look like they have some effort into their presentation. Love Letters, their single from last year should have been a bigger hit. Their polished performance was one of the highlights of the day.

Paramore
Paramore
Paramore are an act that appeal to all age groups, opening with Still Into You, lead singer, Hayley Williams now with turquoise hair owns Bramham Park for the night as she commands the stage with the rest of the band. Confetti cannons engulf the crowd with finishing number Ain't It Fun which sums up today's proceedings perfectly: a fun day out with some great music.
