Review of V Festival - Weston Park - Sunday 17 August 2014

Starsailor
Starsailor
The second day of the V Festival drew the largest crowds of the weekend with 85,000 fans in attendance.

It is a long time since Starsailor graced a UK stage but with tracks such as Four To The Floor and Alcoholic you realise how much you have missed them. They were the perfect band to listen to in the late summer sunshine in the English countryside. The band support James on their UK tour later this year which calls in at Leeds Arena in late November.

Pixie Lott
Pixie Lott
Pixie Lott wore what looked to be a golden bacofoil but it turned out to be a pastie, usually worn by burlesque dancers. The girl can certainly sing and Nasty and her other big track Boys and Girls got the crowd in party mood.

John Newman
John Newman
Setttle's very own John Newman has certainly grown in confidence over the last year; he gave another energetic performance at the festival. His 8 song set saw him and the band all dressed in black and white although his performance was certainly colourful. Chants of "Yorkshire, Yorkshire" from the sizeable crowd greeted him as he took to the stage. Of course the biggest response came for his last track of his set: Love Me Again is now a worldwide hit, he gave it his all as he leapt from the stage and sang to the audience on the front row.

Kaiser Chiefs
Kaiser Chiefs
Another Yorkshire band the Kaiser Chiefs also received a big response from the crowd. Lead singer Ricky Wilson looked trim and had the audience in the palm of his hand. Ruby and I Predict a Riot left the audience wanting more.

Bastille
Bastille
Bastille always look surprised at how successful the band have become with their debut album. Things We Lost in the Fire was the best song of their set. Even the short rain shower did not dampen the audience's enthusiasm.

Example
Example
You do not realise how many hits Example have had until you hear this dance's acts songs altogether. The competition the band had with the fans to see who can jump the highest whilst the band performed was certainly different. Stay with Me their last hit shows a more mature sound to the band. If you go see the band at Bingley Live later this month you will not be disappointed.

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
For Ed Sheeran to stand alone on stage only with his guitar in front of the biggest crowd of the day says something about the power of his songs. He seems to appeal to young and old alike and a lengthy career looks assured, The Halifax born singer was the only act many had come to see of the day.

Blondie
Blondie
Blondie drew an older audience but Deborah Harry (as she now likes to be known) have a strong back catalogue of songs to perform. Atomic and Heart of Glass closed a nostalgic set. She even has a heart shaped glass hung on her microphone stand!

Manic Street Preachers
Manic Street Preachers
The Manic Street Preachers missed the Chelmsford leg of the V Festival due to a flight cancellation but luckily made it to Weston Park. You Stole the Sun from My heart and A Design for Life still sound as good as you remember.

Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake closed the festival with a dance inspired R&B set, of course he is influenced by Michael Jackson in dance and song, TKO and Suit and Tie were the highlights of his set.

Another great weekend with something for every musical taste.
