Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Jayne Gosling Wins Nurse Of The Year
Jayne Gosling, a chemotherapy nurse at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, has been named Nurse of the Year.
Jayne scooped the top award following a public vote, which saw thousands of people from across the country vote on who they thought should be recognised as ‘Nurse of the Year’ on the Hays Healthcare’s website.
After Jayne received the award she said: “I was thrilled to be nominated and was so shocked when I found out that I won, it feels like such a huge achievement and I am thankful.”
Jayne, who suffers from cancer herself, treats patients with haematology problems which also includes chemotherapy and blood transfusions.
“Having cancer myself has helped me understand what the patients are going through and how they are feeling. It has given me a different perspective on the care that I give and I hope this makes the patients feel less anxious and more comfortable when they undergo treatment.”
Jayne is hugely grateful to the team that she works with, she said: “The haematology department have been brilliant to me, they have been nothing but understanding and caring. Despite me having ongoing treatment, I am still working and have received incredible support from the team.”
Jayne was nominated by her colleague Michelle Furness, a Clinical Advisor at Hallamshire Hospital, who said: “Jayne is a chemotherapy nurse who manages to treat and care for patients in a very busy day ward delivering chemotherapies, whilst herself battling through cancer and undergoing treatment on a three-weekly basis. Jayne has amazing strength and has dedicated her nursing career spanning over 25 years to oncology. Jayne is inspirational, amazingly strong and remains the most caring, considerate, and dedicated nurse.
