Two of Yorkshire’s ‘Great Inns’ are going the extra mile next month as Britain prepares to celebrate Mothering Sunday on March 11.
Shibden Mill Inn at Halifax and the Boars Head Inn at Ripley, North Yorkshire, are two of the country’s 22 Great Inns of Britain, each famed for their history and boutique reputations.
Here’s what two of Yorkshire’s finest have in mind for those who want to give mum something a bit special:

Shibden Mill Inn, Halifax
Get ahead of the celebrations with a pre-Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea on Saturday 10 March, which promises an indulgent day of treats. On Mothering Sunday, a three-course set menu of hearty Yorkshire fayre will be served all day in the Bar and Restaurant. Nestling in the beautiful Shibden Valley, the 17th century inn is considered a ‘hidden gem’ but is rapidly extending its reputation beyond West Yorkshire’s borders due to a winning combination of excellent food from head chef Adam Garvey and the picturesque location - ideal for walks.

The Boar's Head Inn, Ripley (nr Harrogate)
Nestled in the historic village of Ripley, The Boar’s Head Inn is an old coaching inn belonging to the Ripley Castle Estate, situated in an area of outstanding beauty on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Plump for traditional Sunday lunch made with fresh local produce including ingredients from its own Castle garden - or choose to take afternoon tea at Ripley Castle.
