Support Acts Named For Jeff Lynne's ELO Concert
Graham Clark, Features Writer
If you didn't already know Jeff Lynne's ELO are performing an outdoor concert at the Hull KCOM stadium on Saturday 1 July. Last year Rod Stewart did a gig there. The sun shone, the stadium was full and it was a brilliant concert.

I saw the band at Leeds Arena last year and they performed all their big hits. With many tribute bands to ELO doing the rounds, this is a chance to see the original band performing hits such as Mr Blue Sky, Evil Woman and Rock n Roll is King.

Album Review: Gun - Favourite Pleasures
The support acts for the gig have recently been announced. It is always tricky trying to get acts that appeal to the headliner's audience but in these two acts I think they have succeeded.

Former lead singer of Keane, Tom Chaplin released his debut album, The Chase, last autumn which went into the Top 3 of the UK album charts. Chaplin went though a difficult patch towards the end of his time in Keane and the lyrics of his album reflect that.

Now slimmed down and with a new lease of life, he will definitely connect with the ELO fans

The Shires are a UK duo who released their second album, My Universe last September. They have gone from playing Pocklington Arts Centre to larger venues like the York Barbican in just over 2 years. This melodic outfit were the first British country band to win a Country Music Award recently. I would describe their music more country tinged pop than pure country. With their live band Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes will certainly win many new fans in Hull, I am sure.

Again, they are an excellent addition to the line up in Hull.

Both are a solid reason to get to the concert early.

Sheffield Arena - 21 June 2017
