Taco Bell, Doncaster

A little bit of Mexico in Doncaster? Taco Bell is a new restaurant chain that arrived in Doncaster just before Christmas.

Situated in the Frenchgate shopping centre in the town, the Mexican inspired restaurant was buzzing with customers when we visited. Not many people eating were over 30 years old, though it does not matter whatever your age to enjoy the succulent food on offer.

The ordering is straight forward: you pick your meal (there are 6 to choose from ranging from the 2 Taco Supreme Meal at £4.89 to the Grilled Stuft Burrito Meal at £5.49), choose your filling, pick your side and drink and then choose how hot and spicy you would like your meal to be.

Your meal is cooked to order and then called out when ready and you collect it from the open kitchen.

We decided to start with the shareable Nachos Supreme priced at £3.99. Seasoned Nacho chips, with nacho cheese sauce, cool sour cream and guacamole and tomato salsa. The Nacho Chips were indeed very crispy and the Cheese sauce a delight.

I decided upon the Volcano Burrito Meal - for those who like it hot they say. For me it was a little too hot, though I did choose a medium level of spiciness. The seasoned beef might have not been disguised by the spices if I had chosen a mild level of Border Sauce. The crushed nacho chips were better than your average fast food restaurant and were hot and tasty.

My partner picked the Grilled Stuft Burrito Meal - pepperjack sauce, Mexican rice, refined beans, three blend cheese and pico de gallo. It certainly seemed a lot bigger than my choice and upon tasting was far more sensuous and satisfying than my choice.

The dessert menu stretches to 3 choices. My churros served with hot chocolate were just as tasty as any I have eaten in Spain.

More restaurants will be opening in Yorkshire so the chain will become established than it is with those in the know.

It is another take on the fast food theme and if your meal is cooked properly like our meals were, then Taco Bell is a very attractive prospect as the food is different to others in the fast food market.
