The Charlatans, O2 Academy, Leeds

The Charlatans first came onto the music scene in the early 90's with the release of their debut album, Some Friendly. Earlier this year they released their 13th studio album, Different Days.

With such a strong back catalogue of songs to choose from the setlist was a mix of old and new. Lead singer Tim Burgess seems to be enjoying success this time around, his enthusiasm appeared to translate to the audience at the Leeds gig.

It was predictably the older tracks such as Weirdo and One To Another that gained the biggest response. The keyboards have always been a strong element of the band's sound. With the mix just right with Tony Roger's organ riffs keeping true to The Charlatans sound.

Burgess teases the fans by saying that Paul Waller might be in the building as he introduces Spinning Out, a song from the new album they co wrote with the Modfather, he is not in attendance alas but the track still shines.

A video wall behind the band showed past videos that accompanied the songs being played on stage as well as plenty of images of the sea and the sun!

North Country Boy leads into Tellin' Stories which demonstrated that the group have some timeless classics up their sleeve.

By the time the gig got to Let The Good Times Never Be Ending the band and the fans had been on a musical journey that had transversed over 25 years.

Encoring as is the tradition with Sproston Green it looks like the band are as popular as ever, as they sang earlier Let The Good Times Be Never Ending.
