Travelodge, York Central Layerthorpe

Outside view of Travelodge York Central Layerthorpe
You might think that all Travelodge hotels are identical and most of them are but the chain is now opening new hotels with added comfort to their rooms.

The new Travelodge in York is the 3rd hotel that the chain now have in the city.

Album Review: Gun - Favourite Pleasures
Situated within easy walking distance of the shops and sites, it takes about 10 minutes or less to reach the city centre.

Unusual for city centre Travelodge's the hotel has a big free car park, though how long this will be free, seeing as it is so close to the centre of York, is debatable.

During my stay there were plenty of parking spaces, perhaps word has not got around yet?

The new build fits in well with its location, it does not look out of keeping.

Reception area
Service upon check in was swift and hassle free.

The rooms in this new hotel have additional features like a larger TV than is usual in their rooms, USB sockets and most importantly of all, air conditioning which is rare in their hotels.

Bedroom
Wi Fi was fast but even the budget traveller these days expects more than 30 minutes free access, as other chains within the same class offer free 24 hour access.

Perhaps this is something Travelodge should look at if they want to capture some of the business market besides the leisure traveller.

Restaurant
Breakfast is buffet style served in a light airy restaurant. My partner thought the hot breakfast items were better cooked than at the other Travelodges we have stayed in.

At the moment it seems the hotel has not been discovered as everything smells new and during our weekend stay it was not too busy, even on a race meeting weekend.
