World’s Largest Yorkshire Flag Unveiled At Scarborough Cricket Festival
Welcome to Yorkshire have unveiled the world’s largest Yorkshire flag to celebrate the start of the 132nd Welcome to Yorkshire Scarborough Cricket Festival.

The giant flag measuring 50 metres squared was waved by children from The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation’s Beach Cricket Tournament as Yorkshire’s players walked out on the pitch for their County Championship Division One clash with Worcestershire.

A mammoth Welcome to Yorkshire banner was also unfurled (the same size as the Yorkshire flag), and children made a guard of honour by waving hand flags and pom-poms as the teams took their positions.

Sir Gary Verity DL, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said:

“We are proud supporters of the Welcome to Yorkshire Scarborough Cricket Festival. We felt this was a special way to show our support for the Yorkshire cricket team and to honour such an iconic sporting event.

“The Festival is one of the most important dates on the cricket calendar and always attracts huge crowds to this historic seaside venue.

“It was fantastic to have children from The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation’s Beach Cricket Tournament involved and we hope festivals like this will continue to inspire future generations of Yorkshire cricketers.”

The Welcome to Yorkshire Scarborough Cricket Festival has been held since 1876 and over the years has played host to some of the world's greatest cricketers. The fixture between Yorkshire and Worcestershire is scheduled to run until Wednesday 22 August.
