Yorkshire Fossil Festival
Scarborough Rotunda
Returning to Scarborough this September, families and residents can unearth the history and mystery of the Dinosaur Coast at this year's Yorkshire Fossil Festival. The Festival, which will take place at the historic Rotunda Museum on Scarborough's South Bay, will be open from 22 - 24 September, hosting a weekend packed full of free family entertainment.

The year's Festival is set to be bigger than ever with a spectacular programme of interactive workshops and activities from over 15 exhibitors, tree stilt walkers, scientific demonstrations from geology experts, fossil handling, storytelling from folklore storyteller Adrian Spendlow and a chance to come face to face with Scarborough's very own T-rex.

Once again, the Festival will be bringing back the hugely popular Dinosaur Footprint Walks and Rock Pooling sessions. Visitors will be able to walk along the dramatic coastline of the Dinosaur Coast, following in the footsteps of the ancient creatures and unearthing the signs of life when dinosaurs walked the Earth.

Organised by Scarborough Museums Trust and sponsored by The Palaeontological Association the event aims to bring geology and palaeontology to the masses through interactive activities and workshops. For the fifth year running, the Festival welcomes a host of partners, who will be exhibiting interesting artefacts and hosting workshops to engage families and young people in the world of Geology and Earth Sciences.

Festival Coordinator, Julie Baxter comments:

"Bringing the Yorkshire Fossil Festival back to Scarborough is a testament to its popularity and the success of previous years. Its exciting to be able to host this at the Rotunda Museum, we've got so many new and exciting activities and exhibitors involved that's its going to be lively weekend. We welcome everyone to drop in during the weekend and learn more about the Dinosaur Coast, families can enjoy hands-on fossil workshops and short talks from experts in the field, and geology enthusiasts will be able to learn from and engage with leading scientists and experts. We encourage anyone who has their own fossil collection to bring them along too!".

Yorkshire Fossil Festival is open from 10am - 5pm, from 22 - 24 September. The Festival is a free event, with a small charge for Dinosaur Footprint Walks and Rock Pooling. To book, visitors should call the Rotunda Museum on 01723 353665.
