10 In 10 Robert Fuller

Robert Fuller, Founder and managing director of Resource Finder, is the latest regional professional in the hot seat as the p.ublished group of newspapers gives him just 10 minutes to answer our 10 burning questions.

What does your typical working day involve?

Always an early start as I enjoy being able to work with some peace and quiet around 6am, during this time I will revisit my inbox and take some notes on tasks and priorities. Once office hours commence, I am often in and amongst the team at work discussing our priorities and ongoing activities and offering advice and guidance where needed. As and when I can put some of the operational involvement aside, I will try to spend time on strategy and finance and the ongoing with a focus on existing business and our growth strategy. I am not a big fan of long meetings, or multiple meetings therefore I try to minimise these and pass on to my management and senior team members for us to then later recap and discuss on a 1-2-1 basis. I am a believer in working at optimal times and therefore I find time to recharge a little and have a downtime later in the afternoon, particularly if the school run is required, which I then usually pick things up again later in the evening to finish the day as started – working with some peace and quiet!

What makes Resource Finder special?

The company is extremely personable and throughout the team, we have a very warm and welcoming approach to all we do. We have built a culture of being hardworking, open, and honest which I believe our clients see and feel the authenticity of the organisation and our people. We’re a ‘can do’ organisation and go beyond the commercials, making sure delivery is the most important thing. I love how dynamic we can be and will always find a way, or if there is no way forward, we’ll be upfront about it.

Do you have any business rules that you swear by?

Effort and hard work are a must, followed by authenticity and honesty. Also, a big one for me personally which I think can apply to all is trusting your gut feeling and intuition!

Do you dress up or down for work?

Generally, I don’t dress up. There’s a time and a place for it, of course, and I will dress up when required, however, it is not an unusual sight to see me around the office in my gym attire. I take the view that what is most impressive is what you do and not always how you look. Again, authenticity is important in my opinion and dressing in a way that represents who you are is important, with an element of professional awareness!

What piece of advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Go for it! Be measured and make the most of opportunities to plan and consider, that’s important. However, if after a little thought and consideration and your gut says so, go for it!

What’s your favourite Yorkshire venue for an event or team away day?

I would recommend a good team away day would be the races, with the best racecourse being York Racecourse.

How do you prefer to travel for business?

I like to use the trains when all is running smoothly as it allows me to get some work done en route. However, of recent times I have taken more assurance in driving.

What’s your favourite place in Yorkshire to relax?

Beverley Westwood, which isn’t far away from home and offers lovely surroundings that’s free and very accessible.

Where is your favourite place to eat in Yorkshire and what dish do you recommend?

Being the traditionalist, it would have to be fish and chips from Papas, or a giant Yorkshire pudding from the Dacre Arms, Brandesburton.

What do you miss most about Yorkshire when you’re away?

The people!
