88 Year Old Yorkshire Veteran Goes The Extra Mile In His Latest Sponsored Walk

For his latest fundraising event former paratrooper 88 year old Jeffrey Long is walking 26 miles to raise funds for Support Our Paras.

The Bradford fundraising veteran started his walk on Sunday 26 April and over the following 10 days will be waking 2.6 hilly miles, which he does in under an hour. He is carrying a pack that has 26 pairs of socks in which he is donating to the Salvation Army for those in need.

Mr Long is no stranger to helping those in need - last year he walked 88 miles raising money for Bradford's Lord Mayor's Appeal. When he was 75 years of age he walked from London to Lausanne in Switzerland in 39 days.

In 2018 he completed an 100 mile south coast walk but only raised £25.00 which was picked up on by comedian Jason Manford who tweeted about Mr Long's walk with the result that £27,000 was added to the pot in 24 hours.

He was awarded an MBE in 2010 for his voluntary service to the Royal British Legion.
