A Christmas Experience With A Difference
Yorkshire Children’s Trust is a regional charity offering emotional and financial support to children with any long term illnesses or disabilities, especially those who would fall through the ‘funding gap’ of traditional support channels.
Christmas at Calderdale Hospital
The charity provides a grotto experience every year at Calderdale Hospital with Santa reading Christmas stories, and then seeing each child on the ward with their siblings with a special gift.
Santa also takes time to visit those children who are bedbound or in isolation to ensure no child wakes up in hospital without a gift at Christmas time.
The charity also provides gifts to other hospitals in the region, with the gift-giving recently expanding to Bradford Royal Infirmary, Dewsbury Hospital, Pinderfields Hospital as well as Airedale Hospital.
This year the pandemic has given a unique set of challenges, but the charity was not going to be held back by these and are working to ensure they can still provide a Christmas experience with a difference.
The charity team have worked with Santa and Calderdale Hospital to put in place a virtual grotto over video calls, with each child on the ward having the opportunity to have a live video chat with the big man himself!
Although the charity cannot take gifts directly, they’re still helping all the usual children’s wards with gifts and are asking for donation pledges to their JustGiving Christmas Appeal Page at www.justgiving.com/campaign/xmas2020
Every penny raised from the campaign will be used for gifts at local hospitals. Those preferring to text donate can text XMASGIFT 3 and send to 70085 to make a one-off pledge of £3.
Simon, the charity founder said:
“We realise it’s not as magical as buying a real gift, but this year we have to work in a Covid safe way and the hospitals need our help more than ever. All the funds raised from the campaign will be used for gifts for children in hospital over Christmas and you can help to bring smiles to the faces on children facing being in hospital over the festive season.”
