A Dram Of Ireland Travels To The North.
It’s always delightful to try an Irish malt, and Waterford Cuvée Argot (2023) was a pleasant discovery.
Cuvée Argot, the 'little brother' to Waterford's Cuvée Concept range, draws flavor and complexity from Ireland's finest natural ingredient, barley, by drawing inspiration from Bordeaux's greatest chateaux.
Made from 100% Irish barley, every bottle exerts craftmanship and is meticulously harvested, distilled, and matured farm by farm to curate an unparalleled flavour rooted in the French wine philosophy of terroir.
The Cuvée: Argot celebrates vibrancy and drinkability, with a touch less maturation in oak to highlight its lively character, making it the perfect entry-level whisky for those seeking a natural single malt.
The character of this slightly peated smooth whisky is that its nose has a maltiness to it as well as fruits.
The blend of fruits and grassy freshness blends well with a fragrant sweetness. As it swirls around the palate, the taste is wonderful to appreciate. It has an apple-like sweetness with a subtle smoky barbecue taste. Savouring the flavour reveals a delicate spice and a subtle hint of cloves. There is also a faint peppery essence and a gentle hint of vanilla.
Booths stores now stock this lovely whisky, making it available for enjoyment across the north. I was delighted that I happened upon it in the Ripon store.
For those who prefer their whisky to taste a little sweeter, the Cuvée Argot is also the perfect spirit for your cocktail of choice.
Waterford Distillery recommends its signature cocktails, Life’s A Peach, Wild Child, Champagne Soda-Nova, and Terroir Tonic, specially curated by the legendary Jon Lister. You can find the recipes
here.
Do try it as a refreshing change, perfect for the autumnal evenings.
