AKA Lonely Boy. Eat, Sleep, Work! Eat, Sleep, Work!

Songwriter musician and producer AKA Lonely Boy locked himself away alone in his studio for most of 2018 to write and record what would become his first album ‘21 st Century Loneliness’. A concise and focused commentary on today’s society and the human condition in the modern world set to the backdrop of driving beats, soaring melodies and anthemic choruses. The perfect starting point to introduce him and his music to the world at large is the relentless, synth driven ‘repetition’. We caught up with him to find out what songs make him...

SMILE

NEVER LET HER SLIP AWAY by ANDREW GOLD

Immediately uplifting, infectious and heard once and I'm whistling it for days Not to mention that it's about the joy of being in love...that alone has to make you smile

CONTEMPLATE

A CHANGE IS GONNA COME by OTIS REDDING

Those opening lines from Otis never fail to give me goosebumps This song stops me in my tracks every time

CRY

I'm not the crying type, in the bawl your eyes out at the new Marks and Spencer Christmas Ad kind of way But if I was pushed to answer this... I do tend to well up on a regular basis when I hear the crowd at Anfield in full voice singing You'll Never Walk Alone Best team in the world Best fans in the world

LAUGH

Any song by the band Mumford and Sons...little Irish pop songs by men in beards and check shirts...do me a favour

WANT TO WORK OUT

SNAKECHARMER by RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE

High energy, adrenaline boosting, punch bag destroying...

REMINISCE

AISHA by DEATH IN VEGAS

I don't really look back in that way, reminiscing about a time gone by and wishing that I was back there. I'm a forward looking person. So, with that in mind, just to indulge the Yorkshire Times...I'm going to choose Aisha by Death In Vegas. Just for plain and simple fact that I had a great time both personally and professionally when I had the pleasure of working with Tim Holmes of Death In Vegas

RELAX

THE THEME FROM A SUMMER PLACE by PERCY FAITH AND HIS ORCHESTRA
Dreamy, lilting, deep breath inducing...what else do you need to relax?

FEEL DETERMINED

COME TOGETHER by THE BEATLES or LAST TO KNOW by NEIL FINN

I couldn't separate these two songs because they are both a lesson in great songwriting, great production and great playing (Ringo's contribution to Come Together, in particular) When I hear either of these songs, they, firstly, immediately make me feel humble because I know that I have still got a lot to learn about my craft and then, secondly, they make me feel determined to push on and always aim for this kind of genius

DANCE

GOOD TIMES by CHIC

Easy choice this one...if you can sit still when this kicks in, I can't be your friend

Here the Monotony and dirge of everyday life is brought under the microscope.

In a time when the mantra of eat, sleep, work is firmly embedded in the collective psyche – the notion that there is always a choice is a brave one

Does it always have to be …

EAT, SLEEP, WORK! … REPETITION?
