Aldo's Italian - A Taste Of Italy In Bradford

When everyone keeps telling you that you should visit Aldo's Italian in Apperley Bridge in Bradford, sooner or later you are going to submit to their pleas and pay a visit. That the restaurant has won the Best Restaurant in Bradford in 2019 in the British Restaurant Awards is another good reason to visit.

It is a Thursday night and by 6pm the car park is already full. The big draw appears to be the Early Bird Menu available from Tuesday to Friday 5pm to 7.30pm and Sunday 2pm to 7pm where 2 courses cost £14.95 or £17.95 if you add on an extra 3rd course.

Italian music is playing in the background, but you can hardly hear it over the busy, bustling atmosphere - much like it is when dining at most restaurants when in Italy.

All guests are given complimentary Pizza Bread which I found to be very tomatoey. The Pane all aglio Con formaggio - Garlic Bread with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese was more Cheese than Garlic, whilst my partner's Gamberetti Tempura - Battered tiger prawns deep fried were said to be crispy, succulent and delicious.

My Americana pizza was covered with spicy southern Italian salami but I'm not sure if the red onions went well with the salami - I've never come across onions on a pizza in Italy, but it was still an enjoyable feast.

If you like pasta you have the option of creating your own bespoke dish. The Pasta A Selecta lets you choose your type of pasta and sauce combination.

My partner chose the Pollo dish without mushrooms, but with the Chicken along with the cheese sauce. Served piping hot it is surprising how many restaurants manage to serve luke warm pasta.

The White Chocolate Cheesecake was very rich and came dotted with raspberries set on a gingernut biscuit base and finished with a raspberry coulis swirl. My choice of Aldo's Mess was a sugary and delightful combination of fresh fruit, meringue, cream and ice cream.

If you want to experience the realistic hustle and bustle of an Italian restaurant you need to visit Aldo's. Besides the good food that is very competitively priced the real draw is Aldo himself. His exuberance makes you feel welcomed and valued and everyone receives his personal attention. The team all appear to work as a finely tuned unit.

The chances of you going over to Italy in the current climate are zero so if you want to experience the real taste of Italy you have found the right destination at Aldo's right here in Yorkshire.
