Students from around the world have headed to Harrogate to attend Ashville College’s new International Business School.

Being held on the school campus for the next two weeks, the venture is designed specifically for 16 to 18-year-olds who are looking to take business related subjects in the next stage of their academic studies.

Those signed up for the new course – which is being run in tandem with Ashville International Summer School – are flying in from mainland Europe and Asia, as well as closer to home, including a number of existing Ashville pupils.

The students have begun the two-week course with a team building exercise at Nidderdale’s How Stean Gorge, before heading to the classroom.

The course, which is led by Ashville College business and economics teachers, includes a specialist three-day leadership and management programme, which is designed to develop the pupils’ personal leadership skills, motivational communications, and, ultimately, project management skills.

In the second week, the International Business School will welcome business experts from a number of local organisations, including Harrogate Borough Council’s Economic Development Unit, Berwins Solicitors, Harrogate VW Sytner and the Department for International Trade.

Gareth Johnson, Director of Ashville Education, said: “We are incredibly excited to have launched our new International Business School. We have been working long and hard to get the concept right and, thanks to a number of local business partners, we are now at that stage.

“The teachers leading the course have been handpicked by Ashville and all teach business related subjects at A-Level, as well as my own leadership and management development training team.

“I’d like to pay tribute to the Department for International Trade, who have been instrumental in helping get Ashville International Business School off the ground. It’s also wonderful to have support from Harrogate Borough Council and a number of business, all keen to share their different business skills with the students.”
