Baines Quadruple Sees AFC Sheaf Overturn Their Luck
Benjamin Baines quadruple goal spree in Saturday’s Division Two encounter between AFC Sheaf and Overthorpe Sports Club FC, where AFC Sheaf won 5-3, sees his side become joint top of Division Two at this early stage which marks a significant turn around in form given the side finished rock bottom of Division One last year without registering a single point.

Also at the top of Division Two are Thornhill United, who recorded a 4-0 victory at home to Crofton Sports FC Reserves with goals coming from Matthew Hopley, Asim Manmood and a Ryan Laffey double.

Two of the sides new to both Division Two and the League have a 100% win record at this early stage. Hemsworth Town FC, who previously plied their trade in the Doncaster Rovers Senior Football League, dominated New Carlton FC in their fixture, with Graham Phillips scoring after just two minutes.

Lee Green and Jay Stirling scored before the half time interval. Grant Swift scored a consolation goal for New Carlton FC before substitute Darcy Pugh’s last minute goal saw his side win 4-1.

Featherstone based Last Orders FC also won 4-1, against a Snydale Athletic Reserves side that are yet to win a point this campaign.

Newly formed City of Wakefield FC got their first ever League goal, thanks to a 65th minute strike from Lewis Henry Fairbank. However, this proved to be a consolation as Middleton based FC Broadway romped to a 13-1 victory, with Liam McMahon scoring four times in the process.

Next week, two of the sides yet to pick up a point meet next week as City of Wakefield host Crofton Sports FC Reserves at the City of Wakefield Golf Club.

Elsewhere, Overthorpe Sports Club travel to South Leeds to take on FC Broadway, while New Carlton FC host in-form Thornhill United. Snydale Athletic Reserves will travel to Lofthouse Colliery with a hope to register their first points of the season against AFC Sheaf.

Hemsworth Town FC take a break from League action as they travel to Hallam FC Vetrans in the Sheffield & Hallamshire CFA Saturday Junior Cup.
