Bradford Steel Acquires New Business

Barrett Steel, the Bradford-based independent steel stockholder, has acquired the Shoreham site of John Parker & Son Limited from the administrators.

The acquisition sees the growth of the 6th generation family steel businesses network to 27 locations across the UK and provides Barrett Steel with an ideal base to service and support customers in the South of England.

The company said it is a “strategic geographical addition to the Group”, and will provide an exclusive and dedicated bulk receipts port facility which will offer greater flexibility as well as speed of supply to service UK customers.

In addition to the port, the acquisition also sees Barrett Steel acquire extensive processing equipment on the site including shot blast prime and paint facilities alongside 6 additional Endeavour Saw-Drill lines.

Over 50 employees will transfer employment under the acquisition securing jobs in the area.

The acquired site will now operate as Barrett Steel Shoreham and Group Managing Director James Barrett commented: “This acquisition allows the Group to develop its presence in the South of England which complements our existing processing hubs in the North. We are excited to welcome the Shoreham team to our business and are positive about the future of the steel industry.”
