Chris Bolder’s Villagers battled to a second straight league victory following their return to the North-East as they visited the Belle Vue Stadium. It proved to be another close affair following Tuesday’s dramatics at Belper, with Ferriby coming out victors to seal another three points.
Early endeavours went to The Villagers who started well, and Lewis Dennison had the ball in the back off the net, however the linesman had deemed the Ferriby forward was offside. As per Tuesday night, the tie soon settled with little opportunity coming for either side, the best coming for Sam Aynsley after being played through by Lewis Dennison, but again the linesman deemed the Ferriby player had strayed offside.
Fifteen minutes from half-time and The Villagers moment came. Jack Walters collected the ball twenty-five yards out, and his strike rippled into the bottom left corner. With the half approaching it’s conclusion, the hosts began to press, however, once again a strong defensive showing prevailed for The Villagers.
The second half descended a little into an attritional affair, with minimal opportunities presenting themselves; of those that did, the best was for Kieron Ceesay on seventy minutes, but he failed to convert.
As the clocked ticked towards the last 15 minutes of the match, Consett were level after a deflected strike trickled in. Following the goal, Ferriby responded admirably, and came very close six minutes from time with Lewis Dennison’s curling strike going close. A minute later, The Villagers went one better when a fantastic free kick from the right hand corner of the eighteen yard box fell kindly to Jack Walters, who nodded home to retake the lead.
Back in front, all that was needed was game and time management, and despite a a little tension from the Ferriby support, Chris Bolder’s men obliged to see out another fantastic three points. The Villagers are now in third place in the league standings, and next up they turn their attention to Bishop Auckland.
