Celebrate all things Yorkshire on 1 August in the UK’s largest county with the Rough Guide to Accessible Britain. This historic English county is perfect for noting the vast quantities of regional pride this month. With a variety of top accessible and inclusive spots to visit on this year’s Yorkshire Day, it gives people with diverse needs ideas on where to go for their fun days out. The guide has been revamped and is now in its 11th year; it has over 180 venue reviews including the following in Yorkshire:

Harrogate, a historic and classy town, filled with beautiful old manor houses, stately architecture and wonderful public gardens. Places to visit include the Royal Pump Room Museum which features a history of local mineral spas. You will have the opportunity to sample the famed sulphurous water that is said to have medicinal healing properties. Then head to the nearby Turkish Baths where you can find steam rooms, heated chambers and a plunge pool. This wonderfully luxurious place is fully accessible with plenty of Blue Badge holder on-street parking, an entrance with wheelchair accessible ramps and accessible changing rooms.

Roundhay Park and Tropical World is spread over 700 acres and is one of the world’s largest urban parks, with wide level pathways to its woodland, gardens and lakes making it a perfect family attraction. Explore the collection of plants and animals the park has to offer, indulge in the restaurant in the exquisite manor house and stroll through the beautifully themed gardens. The park has made every effort to be accessible with ramped trails and Blue Badge parking spaces helping pave the way to truly enjoy the day out.

The RSPB Bempton Cliffs is Europe’s largest accessible seabird colony, a nature reserve that nestles on Yorkshire’s east coast. Watch the razorbills launching themselves from the cliff face before frantically flapping their wings to take flight, listen to the noisy gannets with their enormous fluffy white chicks. There are Blue Badge spaces in the car park with a flat and smooth surface for wheelchair access to reach and enjoy this spectacular view.
