Felix Hagan & Louis Barabbas - Coming To A House Near You
Scout Beck, Features Writer
Exuberant, flamboyant madcap master of melody, Felix Hagan and partner in rhyme Louis Barabbas - in true troubadour fashion - are bringing their musical message direct to you.

And not just to a town near you. The London based musician and frontman of Felix Hagan and The Family is embarking on a countrywide house to house tour with fellow musician Barabbas of The Bedlam Six - all they need is an invite.

Devised as a 'sensible' means of occupying themselves for the month of June and a way of meeting and spending time with their fans, the two announced their intentions to perform in any front room offered and duly waited to be asked.

Or as Louis explained: "The live music sector excels at putting up many pointless walls between artists and audiences as possible - from the initial tedious booking experience right up until the crowd control barriers and po-faced security guards at the concert itself.

"But these days the only way an independent musician can truly flourish is to engage with their listeners as directly as possible. There's only so much social media fiddling any sane human can stomach so Felix and I figured the best course would be to head out into people's front rooms and actually see who it was buying our records - see the whites of their eyes and shake them by their hands (or whatever appendages they presented to us)."

Felix told us his reasons behind the intimate tour idea;

"I play all over the place with the Family on our various mini-tours of the big cities, but we're constantly bombarded with requests from people in the more far-flung parts of the UK to come and play in their towns. It breaks my heart to have to send them off with a vague promise and a "hopefully in a few months", as it's pretty damn hard to get an independent band on the road without a rigorously constructed touring schedule, a van, a team of promoters and a ton of money.

"It sucks that we often don't get to meet the amazing folks that buy our records, so why the hell don't we just go and play in their kitchens? And having done a load of small acoustic shows in the past, I know that they often have the power to transcend the normal parameters of rock shows and instead become beautiful communal experiences, singing and dancing and laughing with people in a manner that is inherently honest and joyful.

"So I got together with Louis and cooked up a plan to just hit the road with a car and two guitars, playing for tips and having fun with our favourite people. We took to Facebook, said "Who wants us?" and were deluged in requests from up and down the UK. And we could say YES to them immediately!

"After a bit of geographical fiddling we were able to force it into a vaguely sensible route, and now we are on the road for two weeks hitting up Southampton, Brighton, Surrey, London, Norwich, Leeds, Preston, Salford, Warrington, Wrexham and Bury, with more dates being added as we go.

"We'll be sharing tour diaries and photos from the road, and some of our beautiful hosts have opened up their shows to the public, and can be contacted through the Facebook event page here

So if you want the rare opportunity to experience possibly the most up front and personal performance you will ever see, from two talented and marvellously original musicians then find out how via Facebook. The pair play at their Leeds venue on June 22, or if that's not suitable then contact them and host your own show.

Felix said: "Check out the free dates online. Fancy having us over to play? Then let's do it."
