Festive Menu Italian Style At Gino’s

We might as well face the fact: we are not going to be able to get to Italy for quite a while yet, certainly not this Christmas.

We can still however dine in the Italian style at Gino’s. The Harrogate restaurant has reopened and has got into the Christmas spirit with a festive menu and even a Christmas tree - decorated naturally in the colours of the restaurant, so expect a lot of turquoise baubles.

The Festive Menu is £50.00 a head; that might seem a bit on the pricey side but when you see the quantity and quality of food you get it all comes into play.

Firstly you are served a glass of Ferghettina Brut - a sparking way to get you in the mood for what is to come.

The Fantastico meat and cheese board is the first course, a sharing plateau of Parma Ham, Coppa di Parma, Salame Napoli, Buffalo Mozzarella, Pecorino, Buffalo Ricotta, Chargrilled Baby Artichokes, Sun-Dried Tomatoes and alongside a tempting bread board. Really it is a meal in itself, all the meat flavours from Italy in one - and cheaper than a return air ticket to Pisa.

The starters include a thick and robust Northern Italian vegetable soup served with a very cheesy ciabatta bread. If you like cheese then you will also appreciate the cheese sprinkled on top of the soup.

CarpaccioCarpaccio

My partner chose the Carpaccio - thinly sliced beef fillet, rocket and parsley oil dressing that was nicely presented and pleasing on the palate.

All the mains are served with roast potatoes and vegetables. My partner decided upon the Turkey Escalopes without the mushrooms. Apparently it was cooked perfectly and delicious too.

My Aberdeen Angus and Hereford Fillet steak was cooked to my liking, came with a choice of peppercorn or blue cheese sauce and was excellent. The steak melted in the mouth, although I could taste a touch of red wine, whilst the fries were nicely salted and crisp. There was a £5.00 supplement for the fillet steak.

We went with our sever's suggestions for desserts and were glad that we did. My Panna Cotta had a zesty orange twist to it complemented by the Amaretto and passion fruit sauce.

If you go to Italy you will know that they like their chocolate, so it’s not surprising that the Chocolate and Hazelnut Cheesecake served with sour cherries was indeed delicious.

Service was attentive and personable with a warm atmosphere throughout the restaurant.

If you arrive between 12 noon and 4pm the Festive Menu is £36.50, with the menu more or less the same albeit with it not as extensive.

It’s been a year we will not forget, but you will not forget however how good your experience will be if you decide to dine at Gino’s.
