Flagship Citywide Event, Reignite, Returns For Sixth Edition: Culture Makes Places

The hugely popular and flagship cultural event, Reignite, returns for its sixth instalment on Thursday 7th November. Reignite VI: Culture Makes Places is set to bring hundreds of business leaders and creatives together, to mark 10 years since York was named a UNESCO City of Media Arts and to drive the city’s cultural ambitions forward. This event will coincide with the BAFTA-Qualifying Aesthetica Film Festival, creating a vibrant hub of creativity and innovation across the city.

Reignite VI begins at 6.30pm at the Yorkshire Museum and is being opened by the Mayor of York & North Yorkshire, David Skaith. We are thrilled to have three European UNESCO Cities of Media Arts joining us to speak about how they use culture to drive economic impact and create jobs and opportunities. The cities attending are Braga, Portugal; Oulu, Finland; and Lintz, Austria.

Afterward, guests are invited to enjoy a complimentary drink at the Guildhall, to experience the city’s inaugural UNESCO City of Media Arts Expo. The event offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience cutting-edge work, forge strategic partnerships and meet the future creators making waves in the UK’s Creative Industries. There are 25 businesses exhibiting, demonstrating the global reach of our sector in York.

Cherie Federico, Director of Aesthetica, said:
“November is an exciting month for celebrating the large-scale impact of cultural programming and the benefits this has to all sectors, including hospitality, retail, transport and services. Reignite, Aesthetica, and the UNESCO City of Media Arts Expo are making huge waves in how culture and the creative industries are shaping the future of York. The economic potential of the creative sector on our city is phenomenal and everyone benefits. We are excited to welcome speakers from across Europe to share their success stories.”

Rachel Bean, Project Manager at York BID, said:
"The success of Reignite is a testament to the power of culture and creativity to bring people together. We are so incredibly lucky to have world-leading creative talent right on our doorstep, and the BID is proud to continue to work alongside Aesthetica to drive this truly unique and transformative event forwards.”

Reignite is a vision for the city in which we leverage our UNESCO Media Arts designation to attract inward investment, develop educational pathways, retain graduates, create more jobs, and quantify the economic impact of the sector on the wider economy of York.
Reignite VI is taking place on 7th November from 6.30-9pm at the Yorkshire Museum. Places are limited. Secure your place via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1027973545547?aff=oddtdtcreator
