Good News All Round At ERT
ERT Director, Tom Wilders
East Riding Theatre in Beverley is delighted to announce that they are a finalist in the 2019 White Rose Awards, the largest tourism awards ceremony in the UK.

This is the first time the theatre have been in the running for such a prestigious award, in the Arts and Culture category - a hugely significant achievement for a small professional theatre that opened as recently as 2014 and which is run by volunteers from the local community.

The ERT Director, Tom Wilders, not surprisingly enthuses: “I am delighted that we have been shortlisted. As a small theatre, not receiving significant public funding, this is a tribute to the volunteers for their hard work and dedication and it serves as great recognition for the quality of shows that we have produced”

Elaine Lemm, the White Rose Award Chair, adds: “This year’s panel of prestigious industry-wide experts have been well and truly put through their paces shortlisting for the recently revamped White Rose Awards. With the standard of entries continuing to rise, competition was fierce, and choosing finalists not easy. With the attention to detail, passion and sheer hard work seen from so many superb businesses, it is easy to see why Yorkshire has an outstanding reputation for tourism and hospitality.”

This has come close on the heels of the wonderful news that ERT’s production of Beryl, by Maxine Peake, will transfer to the Arcola Theatre in London as part of their forthcoming Autumn season. This follows the sell-out run of the production celebrating Beryl Burton at ERT earlier this year. Beryl will run at the Arcola Theatre from the 16 October to 16 November.

East Riding Theatre is shortly to announce its Autumn/Winter season, which will include a world premiere of Horseshoes for Hand Grenades, by Richard Cushing and directed by Eric Loren. The theatre is also gearing up for its sixth Christmas show, Little Women, to be directed by Jake Smith.
